NFL® Great Jerry Rice Signs as Spokesperson for Compex®
NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- July 14, 2003 --
Compex today announced that future football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice will serve as spokesperson for the Compex Sport USA – the first FDA approved device of its kind to be marketed over the counter directly to U.S. consumers.
The 40-year-old wide receiver credits the cutting-edge device with improving the size and shape of his left quadricep muscle, which had experienced some atrophication after he underwent knee reconstruction for a knee injury in 1997 and did not completely respond to conventional exercise. Rice was so impressed with the results that he took the unusual step of approaching Compex about serving as spokesperson, rather than the other way around.
"For two years after my surgery I tried every kind of exercise imaginable, but my left quad still remained smaller and weaker than my right quad," says Rice, a 13-time pro-bowl selection who played 16 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before going to the Oakland Raiders in 2001. "Then I started using Compex Sport for 20 minutes a day, and within just a couple of weeks I noticed a huge difference. Today, my left quad is as strong as my right - and I am back on the football field ready for the coming season."
